    NEW PLANNING SITE

Sunday 21st October 2012, The Sunday Business Post

A new website has been launched to provide up-to-date information and analysis about planning in Ireland.  Operated by David Mulcahy, Irishplanningnews.ie aims to highlight and analyse important planning decisions around the country, and summarise new planning legislation and case law.  Mulcahy also wants to keep the public abreast of new planning guidelines, and help monitor new development plans for cities, towns and villages.

At present, anyone seeking to keep up to date on developments in planning had to view a range of different sources including individual county council websites, the An Bord Pleanala website, the courts website and various other government sites.

“There are very few sources available for planning news,” said Mulcahy. “The sources that area available are difficult to trawl through to get the key information.  This will be one portal where people can go to see what is happening around the country.”

Mulcahy is a former local authority planner who also worked as a senior planning consultant for a Dublin-based firm, and as a fee per case inspector for An Bord Pleanala.  He current runs his own planning consultancy firm.

    NEW ‘PLANNING’ WEBSITE LAUNCHED

Wednesday October 31 2012, Irish Independent

A new planning website, Irishplanningnews.ie, has been launched to provide up-to-date information and analysis about planning in Ireland.

Operated by planning consultant David Mulcahy, it aims to provide a single source for planning related matters in Ireland.

“Currently anyone seeking to keep abreast of developments in planning has to view a range of different sources including individual county council websites, the An Bord Pleanalawebsite, the courts website and various other government sites.”

These sources are essentially databases and are not designed for informative reading, Mr Mulcahy says.

The website will highlight and analyse important planning decisions around the country; summarise new planning legislation and case law; keep abreast of new planning guidelines; and monitor new development plans for cities, towns and villages.

He cites Bord Pleanala’s recent decision to overthrow a refusal for a new private hospital near Sligo as a reflection of the complexity of the planning process.

“This approval was made despite both the county council and the Board’s own senior planning inspector recommending a refusal of permission. The ultimate decision by the Board to grant permission demonstrates how subjective the planning process can be in this country,” he adds.

“Planning has become very complex with new guidelines, legislation, policies, plans etc being introduced all the time. It can be very difficult even for planning consultants to keep up to date with developments.

“Irishplanningnews.ie provides a single portal which allows professionals, the business community, community groups and general members of the public to keep abreast of what is happening in relation to planning in Ireland and enable them to remain informed.”

A single-source portal website for news, analysis and comment on Irish planning issues has been establihsed.

Planning consultant, David Mulcahy, has set up Irishplanningnews.ie because of the a lack of any single source for planning issues.  MD of Kildare-based David Mulcahy Planning Consultants Ltd Mr. Mulcahy has worked in private and public roles in planning, and as a per-fee Bord Pleanala inspector.  He says people keeping up with developments in planning “have to view a range of different sources, including individual county council websites, the An Bord Pleanala website, the courts website and various other government sites.  these source are essentially databases and are not designed for informative reading”.

The site highlights development is Irish cities, towns and villages, keeps up with guideline changes, analyses trends and summarises planning legislation and case law etc.
